This disc is a special treat indeed. A dear old friend (one of the oldest serving members of the Australian Film distribution business) Len Cameron, loaned me his World Record Club 'Reel to Reel' tape copy (I've never seen another tape copy since) Len's copy remains in near mint condition. The arrangements created for this remarkable selection are 'special'. The version of "Intermemezzo" is the most sumptuous I have ever found!. ~ must find out if these recording were actually made in a Cathedral? (as the orchestra name suggests). It would certainly seem so, as the Super Low Base notes that thunder throughout this rendition, I assume, could only be achieved by a Giant Pipe Organ. The sound reproduction is astounding, hardly any hint of distortion from this fantastic analog recording. Stunning!. Same can be said for Handel's "Largo". If you want powerful renditions of these magnificent pieces, then this is the disc for you. The rest of the selections are also well above average. Unreservedly the best of all time, regardless of it's age. KenR.
